There are different types of
accommodation available to rent or buy in Malaysia. Most expatriates who are planning to stay in
Malaysia for less than five years tend to rent. There are basically three
different types of accommodation available to rent.
Apartment - Usually in a large condominium
complex with facilities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts.
Strict security on entry. Maybe restrictions on pets. Popular locations for
condominiums include Mont Kiara, Bangsar and Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
Gated Community - Detached or terraced housing in a gated community or private estate with
generally strict security on entry. Usually with shared facilities such as a
swimming pool and gymnasium. Houses and complexes vary in size. Examples
include Mutiara Seputeh, Valencia, Country Heights, Duta Tropika, Duta
Nusantara and Seri Beringin.
Private Homes -
Semi-detached or detached houses in a residential area, varying in size and
standard depending on budget. Some have a garden or small courtyard and some
larger houses have private swimming pools. Sometimes residents contribute to a
security guard or patrol at the end of the street. Popular areas include
Damansara Heights, Bangsar, Ampang and Bukit Tunku.
There is a good choice of serviced
apartments in Kuala Lumpur where you can live temporarily (or even permanently)
whilst you are looking for a new home or waiting for your shipment to arrive.
