Weekly Sports Recap:

🏀 Basketball

U11 KLASS Boys A 33 - 13 Sunway Boys A

U11 KLASS Boys B 25 - 10 Sunway Boys B

The U11 Boys A and B squads played well together, consistently looking for the open player and passing more than dribbling. They focused on layups, which is great, and made a few good shots. Defensively, they were aggressive and fearless. The team stayed positive, always encouraging each other. Our Year 5 players performed well, while the Year 6 players showed strong leadership, guiding the younger ones effectively.

🏀

U11 KLASS Girls A 8 - 9 Sunway Girls A

U11 KLASS Girls B 13 - 28 Sunway Girls B

The U11 Girls A and B teams initially struggled but quickly became more comfortable as the game progressed. Despite starting behind, they found their rhythm and began scoring once they settled in. They showed great chemistry, even though they had just started playing together. Defensively, they locked down the opponent well.

The team is now motivated to improve, understanding the physical side of the game better. They were very positive throughout and listened attentively to instructions. Sonia from 6S stood out with her excellent leadership and relentless hustle.

What got me into Coaching?

I started playing basketball at the age of 14 without ever having a formal coach. I kept seeking knowledge by asking those around me. I represented my secondary school and played for various state teams like Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and Selangor, but I still didn’t have proper coaching experience.

At 25, I played professionally for KL Dragons in the ASEAN Basketball League. During this time, I was also given the opportunity to coach for the KL Dragons Academy and became the Lead Coach for the Junior NBA Programme in Malaysia. This role allowed me to select the top 10 players out of 5000 to represent Malaysia internationally.

What got me into coaching wasn’t just my love for basketball but the desire to give children a chance to enjoy competition. It’s about giving your best, without focusing on winning or losing. When I finally experienced working with an actual coach, I realised the difference it makes—not just in improving skills but also in being a role model. Coaching is about learning from each struggle, with every challenge offering a valuable lesson.
